The Taste Buddies Student Interest Group (SIG) recently took a trip to the South End Kitchen in Burlington for a lesson on croissant-making. Melanie Ma ’17 created this short video of their cooking lesson, from kneading the dough to taking the finished product hot out of the oven. UVM College of Medicine students who participated include: Homer Chiang ’17, Rebekah Wieland ’17, Xiaofan Pan ’16, Sierra Trejos ’17, and Jessica Huang ’17. The Taste Buddies SIG provides “UVM medical students with opportunities to expand their culinary experiences and connect with other foodies.” They sponsor events throughout the year, including trips to maple syrup producers and a brick oven pizza demonstration. Created and led by students, the dozens of SIGs at the College of Medicine allow students to get more involved in a range of activities, some related to academics or community service, while others are just for fun.
